Atherosclerosis describes a build up of fat between the smooth muscle layer and the endothelium. Eventually the endothelium at the plaque surface breaks down, exposing the 'sticky' contents to platelets, and resulting in a massive clot, which completely impedes blood flow through the vessel. Respiration
The major function of the Respiratory system is gas exchange. Respiration is vital to, and works in conjunction with the circulatory system. Not only does it provide for oxygen exchange in the lungs. This process is intricate and supplies oxygen to RBC's in the alveoli of the lungs. This interaction between the blood and the lungs allows these same unwanted carbon dioxide waste to be exhaled, thus maintaining a constant pH balance in our blood.
